Freemont Lee Russell

Freemont Lee Brunson Mitchell-Russell was born on June 5, 1954 in Woodson, Arkansas.  She was the tenth child born to the late Harrison Brunson and Rosie Marie Brunson. 

Freemont grew up in Woodson and attended the public schools of Pulaski County School District. 

She met Christ at an early age and, most recently, was a member of Changing Lives Ministries in Woodson where her sister, Elnora Perkins is her pastor.

She married Johnnie Wilbur Mitchell on October 20, 1972.  To this union, five children were born.  She happily embraced Johnnie’s children from a previous marriage and, together, they formed a very large family of children.  The couple moved to San Diego, California.  While she was there, she attended cosmetology school and became one of the finest cosmetologists in the area because she had a true passion for her patrons.  Johnnie passed away on April 21, 1995.  Freemont later married Elliott Russell.

Freemont’s family made up the entirety of her world.  She dedicated her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother, grandmother and wife. She was the foundation of her family.  She was an excellent gift giver, always knew the right thing to say and never missed a special date. She supported and encouraged her entire family and was a constant cheerleader, especially for her grandchildren.  She will be sorely missed by all who had the opportunity to meet her.

She was predeceased by her parents, Harrison Benjamin Brunson and Rosie Marie Johnson; her daughter, Barbara Johnson; her son, Eric Mitchell; her brothers, Cordell, Billy Joe, Fred, and James Edward Brunson and Alander Lee Pulliam; her sisters, Peggy Brunson, Lois Brunson Lewis, Teresa Brunson Bailey, Sandra Kaye Brunson, Joyce Brunson Waters, and Margaret Pulliam.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband Elliott Russell; her children, JoAnn Smith (Mervin), Stanley Mitchell (Lori), Johnny Mitchell, Juanita Duresseau (Gabe), Dorothy Otis, Carolyn Nealy, William Mitchell, Brenda Torres (Albert), Glenda Barney, Byron Henry, David Mitchell (Shon), Katina Mitchell Austin (James), Alicia Mitchell, and Kevin Mitchell; her brothers, Harrison Brunson, Jr., Donnie Pulliam (Glenda) and Nicholas Brown (Montinique); her sisters, Joyce Thomas, Barbara Young (Reginald), Elnora Perkins (Booker), and Sharon Beard (Jimmy); 55 grandchildren, 56 great grand children, 7 great great grandchildren and a great host of other relatives and friends.
