Gary Lee Stewart Obituary

Gary Lee Stewart, 65, of Augusta, Georgia, formerly of North Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away on May 9, 2025. A professed Christian, loving father, and family-oriented man, Gary was known for his zest for life, his infectious personality, his love for animals, music, and dance, that often made him the life of the party. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met.


Born on May 5, 1960, Gary was the beloved son of the late Josie Lee Stewart and Johnson Donahue, and the cherished grandson of the late Cora Stewart. He dedicated his life to Christ at an early age in Tie Plant and later became a faithful member of First Baptist Church (Lewis Street Church of Christ). He graduated from Northeast High School in North Little Rock, AR in 1978.


Gary had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and spent many of his happiest days fishing and enjoying quality time with his children, grandchildren, and his closest loved ones. He worked in various industries throughout his life and was known for his unwavering work ethic. Later in life, he devoted himself full-time as a caregiver to his beloved niece, Shannon Thomas-Brooks—a role he embraced with love and commitment before relocating to Augusta, Georgia.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Josie Lee Stewart and Johnson Donahue, his grandparents Lucious and Cora Stewart and Morris and Lucinda Donahue.


He is survived by his children: Gary Stewart Jr., Devonne Donahue, Ramon Stewart, and his wife Iesha, Brittany Stewart, Devonne Scott and her husband Kevin, and Da’Niya Stewart. His legacy will continue to live on through his grandchildren Anecia Stewart and Landarias Stewart of Gary Stewart Jr, Malachi Sherwin of Devonne Donahue, Kamaya Baker, Romance Stewart, Valentino Stewart, Reina Stewart, and Jenesis Stewart of Ramon Stewart, Melah Hardy of Brittany Stewart, and Madison Scott and Harlee Scott of Devonne Scott.


Gary also leaves behind his siblings: Johnson Donahue Jr., Jack Webb, Freddie Dupree, Helen Washington, Girtha Dotson, and Onita Allen. In addition, he is survived by his beloved extended family of fifteen siblings: Henry Dupree Jr., Willy C. Baker (Annie), Betty Tee, Larry Stewart (Serita), Perry Patterson, Gracie Brooks (Don), Harold Dean Donahue (Rosalyn), Evelyn Epps (Billy), Joyce Ware (Johnny), Justus Donahue (Velma), Paul Donahue (Juanita), William Donahue (Wilamena), Don Donahue (Ruth), Annette Smith (Cliff), and Laron Donahue (Val).


Gary’s warm and vibrant spirit, enduring faith, and dedication to his loved ones will forever be remembered. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
