LaTonya Ernestine Smith Obituary

LaTonya Ernestine Smith, affectionately known as "Toni", was born on January 19, 1978, in Chicago, Illionois, to Reverend Henry Smith and Ernestine Gwendolyn B.G. Smith. She was welcomed into a loving home filled with family, faith, and memorable Sunday meals. Both her father (1994) and mother (March 6, 2019) preceded her in death.

From an early age, LaTonya embraced her faith, professing her hope in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and being baptized. Her spiritual foundation remained a cornerstone throughout her life. In the early 1980s, LaTonya moved with her family to Pine Bluff, Arkansas, where she continued to grow grace and wisdom.

LaTonya was known for her forthright demeanor and deep sense of integrity, traits inherited from her mother. As a chef at Hazel Street Restaurant for over nine years, her culinary skills brought joy and nourishment to many. But beyond her professional achievement's, LaTonya lived a life of service and compassion. She was a giver in every sense of the word, ensuring that anyone in need has a place to stay and food to eat. Her home and heart were open to all, and she quickly became known as the neighborhood "Mother", a role she embraced with pride and love.

LaTonya's tough love was coupled with a nurturing spirit. Those who had the privilege of knowing her felt her warmth and unwavering support. She carried herself with wisdom, strength, and intellect, making her presence both respected and cherished. Her Legacy is one of faith, generosity, and love-a testament to the life she lived and the countless lives she touched. Though she departed, her memory will remain a source of inspiration and comfort to all who knew her.

Left to cherish her memory are her five children: ShaQuona D. Smith, Xaiver D. Williams, Marquie D. Smith, Lakeith D. Smith, and Teanna D. Smith. She will also be remembered and cherished by 10 grandchildren: Marcus McAfee Jr., Ja'Riyah Pridgeon, Kay'Son Smith, Niy'Keriah Cain, Za'Miyah Nicole Williams, Amilli on Devon Smith, Kel'Shawn LaZarrius Long, Kynslee A' Livia Smith, Khole Chanel Smith, and Delanci Dior Gaddy. She has nine siblings (one who is no longer with us): Alicia Freeman (Lisa), Derwin Griffin (Be-Be) d. June 25,2020, Carol R. Griffin, Darryl Griffin (Goo), Brian Griffin. Dwayne Griffin (Tiffany Griffin), Lauranetta Griffin (James), Lean Harden, and Charles Griffin, a host of nieces, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
