Rev. Elton A. Virden Obituary
Rev. Elton Aren Virden Sr. was born August 20,1939 in Woodson, Arkansas to the late Aren Virden and Francis Lewis. He passed away peacefully on August 29,2024. He recently celebrated his 85th birthday on August 20, 2024, with family.
Elton accepted Christ at an early age and his calling to preach the Gospel in 1984 under the leadership of Pastor D.C. McMurray. He pastored First Baptist Church for 8 years and was a faithful servant until his health failed.
Elton was enlisted in the US Army. He retired from the Southern Paper Box Company, after many years of employment. He was blessed with many talents, (sewing, building, fixing cars, drawing and many more.) Elton also enjoyed music, playing his harmonica, looking at old westerns and telling stories to his grandchildren. He had a good sense of humor, and He was the king of checkerboard! “You Go Elton”
He was preceded in death by his father; Aren Virden, his mother: Francis Lewis, brothers; Winston Virden Sr., and Edward Lewis.
Elton leaves his memories to his devoted wife of 62 years, Teresa B. Virden and children, Arletha White of Florida, Taff (Lacy) Virden, Elton Virden Jr., and Chris Virden all of Woodson, Arkansas. Two sisters; Mable Tart and Dennice Eberhart (Irwin). He was dearly loved and known as Grandboy by eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
God saw him getting tired, a cure not meant to be. So, God wrapped his loving arms around Elton and whispered. “Come With Me”
