Deacon Clarence L. Childs, Sr. was born in Banks, Arkansas to the late Delonia and Willie Childs, Jr. on July 1, 1949. He graduated from Westside High School in Hermitage, Arkansas in 1966 and later graduated from Agricultural Mechanical and Normal College in Pine Bluff, Arkansas in May of 1970. Deacon Childs united in Holy Matrimony with Frances Lambert on November 10, 1970, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Clarence began his career with Arkansas Best Freight Corporation in 1971 as a Dispatcher. He was later promoted to a Mechanic Shop Supervisor position. In 2011, he retired after 40 years of dedicated service. He was a man of great commitment. He was committed to his wife and family for 51 years, to his job for 40 years and to his Greater Second Baptist family for over 30 years.
He united with Greater Second Baptist Church on January 27, 1985, where he accepted Christ as his personal savior. He was ordained as a Deacon on January 9, 2005. He faithfully served as Vice-Chairman of the Deacon Board, as a member of the Finance Committee, Brotherhood Ministry, and Repass Ministry.
Deacon Childs leaves to mourn his wife of 51 years, Frances Lambert Childs, three biological children: Delonia Annette Childs, Heather Childs, and Clarence Childs, Jr.; four God children: Kevin Childs (Margaret), Kelly Lambert (Cobi), Nicki Lambert, and Crystal Ramirez (Angel); four siblings: Willie Meryl Andrews (deceased), Bobby Charles Childs, Pamela Banks, and Ruby Jean Childs (deceased); six grandchildren: Joshua and Jordan Elliott, Tayler Smith, Reginald Johnson, Jr., Khloe Lambert, and Avery Claire Childs; a very special aunt, Daisy Gardner; and a special cousin Myrtle Jean “Toni” Benson.
